The Ultimate ‘Waterman’
Blake Dresner was the definition of a ‘waterman’. Growing up in Leucadia, Blake became very familiar with the ocean and was a standout surfer at a very young age. His talents eventually led him to travel the world in search of waves. On one of his excursions in Java, he saved the lives of two local children who were pulled out to sea. Through this experience as an Encinitas Lifeguard and world traveler, Blake saw the need for a higher level of lifesaving education in remote communities around the world.
Blake would have loved to spread awareness for this cause, but he never got the chance.
On August 15th, 2020, while on a surf trip in Salina Cruz, Mexico, Blake sustained a fatal injury from his surfboard and passed away on the beach. He was surrounded by friends who admired his passion and carry on his legacy today.
The EPICC Foundation was created following Blake's passing and continues to carry his legacy, promoting lifesaving education in remote communities around the world.
The Annual Blake Dresner Surf Contest is a way to celebrate Blake’s life while bringing friends, family, and our community together. The annual contest is presented by the EPICC Foundation.
